The best mattress 2022 top options for all budgets

Our best mattress guide has everything you need to make the right decision. You might be looking for memory foam mattresses if you are suffering from neck and back pain, or need constant pressure relief. Hybrids are another option since they combine the body-cradling benefits of foam with coil support.

We also found cooling mattresses that were comfortable for hot sleepers. Organic models are non-toxic as well as those that are allergy-friendly. You can expect full-body support and comfort from all the mattresses below.

Our best mattress guide features all models that can be bought online. These brands do not have to sell in bricks and mortar stores so they are much more affordable. Some manufacturers also offer free bedding, which can make your purchase more worthwhile.

With just a few clicks, you can have your new mattress delivered straight to your door. If you select a brand that offers white glove delivery, you can also get it delivered to your bedroom. You can return the mattress if you’re not completely satisfied.

Our top tip is to select a mattress maker that offers at least 30 nights of risk-free testing (all our top picks offer at least 100 nights). Why? It can take approximately three weeks for your body time to adjust to a brand new mattress. Consider looking for a deal before buying.

Most of the mattresses we recommend are available at a discount. To help you save, we have gathered the most recent mattress deals on top foam, hybrid, or latex models.

Reasons to Buy

+Very comfortable and supportive+Outstanding value for money+Huge trial and forever warranty

There are reasons to avoid

-Not as firm as spring mattresses

For sheer value for money, the Nectar Memory Foam is hard to beat. This medium-firm, all-foam mattress in a box provides exceptional comfort and support. It was comfortable to sleep on and we loved it after two months of use. The five layers contour your body.

It provides great pressure relief around your shoulders. Hips. Back. As well as aligning your spine. The temperature regulation of a memory foam mattress was very satisfactory, according to our findings. Even in the summer heat, we never overheated the mattress at night.

This mattress is ideal for couples. It’s very responsive to motion, so your partner won’t have to disturb you. We liked the edge support too. We were able to sleep comfortably all the way up to the perimeter which made it feel even wider.

The Nectar Memory Foam mattresses’ real advantage is their value. You can get a $400 discount on most sizes. It is also significantly less expensive than other brands, like Purple and Casper.

There is also $399 worth of complimentary gifts. You also get a one-year free trial, no shipping or returns fees, and a lifetime warranty. All of this makes it a very attractive proposition.

Memory foam may not be for everyone. So if you like the Nectar mattress sound and would prefer to lay on top rather than in it, the hybrid DreamCloud is number seven. If you have the budget for it, the Saatva Classic innerspring mattress is an excellent choice.

Nectar, however, is a better value than any other mattress. If you want the most comfort and the most bang for your buck, this mattress is by far the best.

  • Online availability
  • Trial length: 180 Days

  • MSRP: $849 – $2,099
  • Reasons to Buy
  • +Can personalize firmness and height.

There are reasons to avoid

Refund or exchange fees of $99

Saatva Classic is the flagship, premium mattress. It comes from the luxury online brand Saatva. The mattress is top-rated on quality. Its $1,000+ price tag makes it the least expensive. The high-end hybrid innerspring will give you a restful night’s sleep if it is within your budget.

One of the biggest selling points is its ability to be custom-made. Saatva Classic can be ordered in soft, medium, or firm versions. Also, you have the option to choose between 11.5 and 14.5 inches of height.

We tried the 11.5-inch Luxury Firm option. The premium, environmentally-friendly foams combined with a plush top pillow provide soft cushioning. While the dual steel coil system offers exceptional support for your lower spine, it is extremely durable and long-lasting.

The Congress of Chiropractic State Associations has given the Saatva Classic a Seal of approval. The luxury firm option makes a great choice if you suffer from back pain.

We love how buoyant the mattress feels. It doesn’t feel like you are sinking into it, which is great for anyone who is sensitive to heat at night. The Nectar is a better choice than the Cocoon Chill.

It’s also durable. Some of our reviewers are still enjoying their mattresses even after a year. Edge support is especially firm, and we recommend it to anyone who has trouble getting into and out of bed.

The price for all of this quality is, however, high. The Saatva Classic isn’t the best option in our best mattresses guide – but it provides a great deal for premium mattresses, and is less expensive than some luxury hybrids.

The Saatva Classic comes with a 180-night trial, white glove delivery in the room of your choosing, and free white glove delivery. This is the right product if luxury at an affordable rate is what you are looking for.

Original Tuft & Needle Mattress

The best mattress on a budget

  • Type: A mattress in a box
  • Firmness (1-10): 6
  • Material
  • Height: 10 inches
  • Online and in-store showrooms
  • Trial period: 100 days
  • Warranty: 10-year limited
  • Best for All Sleepers
  • MSRP: $350 – $750

Reasons to Buy

+Customers rave about it+Good for overall relief+Experienced Company

There are reasons to avoid

-Edge support may not be great

The Tuft&Needle Original mattress makes a good budget mattress. The mattress isn’t the most expensive, as the Zinus Green tea Memory Foam mattress is at number 10, but this mattress balances performance and price well.

The Tuft & Nell Original is made up of two layers of foam. This medium-firm mattress is very supportive. This mattress does not contain memory foam, so it doesn’t offer the contouring that you would expect from other options.

But, T&N’s adaptive Foam was responsive, providing good cushioning and pressure relief, both for side and back sleeping.

However, stomach sleeping was less comfortable. We would have liked more support. Not to be overlooked is the fact that we did wake up several times in sweat, despite the mattress’s numerous cooling features (graphite & cooling gel). If you are sensitive to heat and require a budget mattress we recommend the Allswell 9-inch mattress.

Despite a few indents that have appeared after a year of usage, the Tuft & Needle Original has received over 40,000 positive user reviews on Amazon, Google, Yelp, Google, and Amazon. The basic functions are what it excels at. You don’t need the fancy features of a premium mattress, this is a good budget option.

The cool Purple mattress provides a great night’s sleep for a moderate price. One of the most innovative US mattress brands, the Purple grid technology is what makes it stand out. This revolutionary material is a hyperelastic gel-like foam that instantly adapts to the body of the user and provides tailored support.

We were impressed with the Purple mattress and gave it high marks in our review. It was easy and quick to order. Once it arrived, two people were able to unpack it and unroll it.

It feels different than other foam mattresses. The gel grid responds immediately to movement, aligning your spine and supporting pressure points. You can also adjust your position to get it back in place. The plush top made us feel like we were floating and was supported by the sturdy base layers.

Purple mattresses make a great choice for couples. Because the grid isolates movement, you won’t feel disturbed by your partner turning and tossing. It is also ideal for people who heat up at night.

The mattress features over 2,800 open channels for cooling. A soft flex cover and breathable foams help keep heat away. The purple grid may not be for everyone. Some report that they take some time to adjust to the unique and supportive feeling. We believe it’s well worth the wait.

The Helix Midnight is our only recommendation for side sleepers. All of the top mattresses in our guide are great choices. This medium-firm hybrid mattress from Helix is their most popular.

It contains five layers, which are designed to support your body while you sleep on your sides. Comforting memory foam and dynamic polyester help relieve pressure and support the body. Meanwhile, hundreds upon hundreds of individual coils hug your body to provide extra support and reduce motion transfer.

Helix is a brand we like because it makes great mattresses and has a great website to purchase a mattress online. If this is your first time buying a mattress online, there’s a helpful sleep quiz available that will help you decide if the Helix Midnight is the right model for you.

  • Height: 10 inches
  • Online availability
  • Trial period: 100 days
  • Warranty: 10 years

There are reasons to avoid

-Some may find it too soft

Sealy is the industry giant behind Cocoon Chill Memory Foam. This memory foam mattress measures 10 inches in depth. This medium-firm mattress was designed to adjust to your body to provide targeted support.

It features three foam layers. There is luxury memory foam for contouring and responsive comfort foam to prevent motion transfer. The support layer provides support and durability.

Cocoon Chill Memory Foam mattress’s high-end stretch-knit cooling covering is what really makes it stand out. The Cocoon Chill Memory Foam mattress has a phase-change cover that absorbs and dissipates heat and keeps you dry all night.

The Cocoon Chill stayed cool throughout our test period. Even the hot-sleeping reviewer did not wake up sweaty. This alone is a major advantage over all-foam mattresses.

Cocoon Chill Memory Foam Mattress should fit most sleeping positions. It was especially comfortable when side sleeping. This mattress is also a good choice for hot sleepers who like the ‘hug” of memory foam.

Edge support could have been better, as is often with foam mattresses. The Cocoon Chill Memory Foam is highly recommended. We give it top marks for its comfort, cooling capabilities, and superior sound isolation.

It is also extremely affordable with a 35% off permanent sale. Cocoon Chill is a great option for anyone looking for a moderate-firm, inexpensive memory foam mattress.

The DreamCloud Mattress

An excellent hybrid option to the all-foam Nectar bed

  • Firmness (1-10): 6.5
  • Material: Hybrid (foam/coils)
  • Height: 14 inches
  • OnlineAvailability

  • Lifetime Warranty
  • Best for All Sleepers
  • MSRP: $799 – $1,299

Reasons to Buy

+Sleeps cool+Hotel comfort+Responsive, innerspring feeling

There are reasons to avoid

It may be too tall for some.

The DreamCloud mattress is an excellent alternative to the Nectar. This luxurious hybrid mattress is priced at a more affordable price. While it may not be as comfortable as the Saatva Classic, it comes with a few hundred dollars less and free pillows.

This medium-firm, 14-inch mattress is among the tallest in our guide. It features five layers of thick, firm support as well deep, soft cushioning.

The core of the mattress is composed of an individual layer of coils. These coils can be customized to fit your body, giving DreamCloud an innerspring feel. They also increase airflow, dissipating heat during the night.

These springs are topped by a layer of gel memory foam, which contours to your body. This gel memory foam is designed to support your hips, shoulders, and other pressure areas. You can also find a cooling, quilted cover made of cashmere.

DreamCloud is loved by its existing customers: It has a five-star average from over 3,000 DreamCloud reviews and a 4.2 rating on TrustPilot (an independent review site that focuses on 800 users).

Most reviews praise DreamCloud for its comfort and excellent customer service. Some users complain that the edge support is not good enough for those who want to lie on the side.

Be aware that DreamCloud mattresses are heavier than others (a queen size is 85lbs, Nectar is 74lbs, and a king is 107lbs), so it will require two people to move it.

For an additional $149, white glove delivery is available in non-covid areas. The DreamCloud offers a massive 365-night test and a forever warranty. The DreamCloud mattress is easy to test at home thanks to its free shipping and return policy.

+Made with nontoxic materials+Does does not get too hot+Very sturdy

There are reasons to avoid

-Some motion transmission

Avocado Green mattress is the most organic and comfortable mattress. The Avocado Green mattress is made with non-toxic, green materials. It provides a comfortable, yet firm sleeping environment and outstanding green credentials.

It’s loved by customers. Avocado Green mattress scores 4.7 out of 5. Based on more than 12,000 customer reviews, the Avocado website has received a score of 4.7. Many have praised the mattress for its comfort, with some claiming that it has eliminated their back pain.

There are two versions: one that is standard and one that is a pillow top. The standard version measures 11 inches deep. The pillow top adds two additional inches of luxury support.

Both are made from premium natural materials. They include ethically sourced, organically certified latex, wool, or cotton. (GOLS stands for global textile processing standards for organic fibers).

The 1,414 pockets coils help to distribute your body weight more evenly. It is also one of the strongest mattresses available. There is no better mattress for you if you want to be supportive, comfortable, and made with natural materials.

The Allswell Mattress

A great-value budget hybrid mattress

  • Material: Hybrid (foam/coils)
  • Height: 10 inches
  • Online availability
  • Trial period: 100 days
  • Warranty: 10 years
  • Best for lower budgets
  • MSRP: $265 – $475

The Reasons Why You Should Buy

+Excellent value for money

There are reasons to avoid

It-Firmer than most people expected. No machine-washable cover

The Allswell is a mattress that combines memory foam with coils. Walmart supports it. They claim it delivers ‘luxury’ at an affordable price. However, many users agree that it does a good job.

One layer of individually wrapped coils in the interior helps to reduce motion transfer. This makes this a great option for couples. A cooling, breathable layer of memory foam tops the mattress. It provides cushioning and support while also keeping you cool. Allswell describes the mattress as medium firm.

The Allswell can be described as a bed in the box, similar to the Nectar. It will arrive in 24-48 hours, wrapped up in a box that is convenient for your needs. It comes with a 100-night trial and a 10-year warranty.

Be aware that the budget price tag has forced some premium features to be sacrificed. It does not have removable covers, however.

The Allswell holiday sale does not offer a discount for this model. The Allswell mattress still offers great value. It is one of the most affordable and high-quality mattresses that you can find.

Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam mattress

The best mattress under $300, cheap and cheerful

  • Type: A mattress in a box
  • Firmness (1-10): 6
  • Material
  • Height: 6-12 inches
  • Online and retail showrooms available
  • Trial period: 100 days
  • Warranty: 10 years
  • Best for tight budgets
  • MSRP: $151 – $464

Here are some reasons to buy

+Amazon’s top seller+Different thickness options

There are reasons to avoid

-Thicker options will cost you more -Some find it too cold

Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam mattress is not the best. Let’s make that clear. This guide will show you that there are many high-end options, with better materials and more advanced features. This Amazon best-seller is worth looking into if your budget is tight or you want to furnish a spare area without spending too much.

Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam mattress is all-foam. It features memory foam that is green tea-infused and purified charcoal particles. This mattress is designed to absorb moisture and neutralize odors.

It is available in different thicknesses, including 6, 8, 10, and 12, and the price goes up as you get deeper into it. For $317, the 10-inch version is available. We used it for three months. It was very comfortable, supportive, and had minimal motion transfer. (In case it’s not obvious, it doesn’t smell of tea …)

The best thing about this mattress is its price. It’s not often that you can find a quality king-sized mattress for under $300. Amazon’s user reviews are overwhelmingly positive, reaching over 100,000 by May 2021. The average score is 4.4 out of 5

Some questions remain regarding the durability of the mattress over time. We don’t know how it will perform after many years. It may not be the best option if you are constantly overheating at night.

In fact, some of our reviewers reported feeling uncomfortably warm. Overall, the Zinus Green Tea Memory-Foam mattress is highly regarded. This is the best memory foam mattress for anyone looking for support and comfort at an affordable price.

How to pick the best mattress

Only by actually sleeping on a mattress can you determine if it is the right one for you. Every option in our best mattress guide comes with a long, risk-free trial. If you don’t love it, you can return it to get another one. These are key factors to consider when choosing the right mattress.

This article will answer common questions and provide key considerations when purchasing a new bed. We will also share our tips and tricks on choosing the best mattress within your budget.

Which type of mattress is the best?

The short answer to this question is that there isn’t any one type of mattress best. Why? Because everyone is different. Therefore, the right mattress for you depends on your body and individual sleep preferences.

Second, the differences between mattress types are decreasingly small. Over the last five years, materials have advanced so rapidly that it is difficult to feel any differences while sleeping on them.

This is great news for you. It means that you can pick any option in our best mattress guide, regardless of whether the mattress is copper-infused, cooling latex, coils, or a cutting-edge combination of all-natural materials.

But it’s helpful to know the differences between each mattress type before you make your final selection. This is why we have highlighted the key differences among each of the major options.

Memory foam mattresses

The Nectar Memory Foam mattress boasts three-inch of gel memory foam. Credit: Nectar

Memory foam is a good choice for anyone who loves to be hugged by their mattress. This material molds to the body of your body, offering better pressure relief than spring-based options.

It also absorbs motion very well. This makes it a good choice for people who share a bed and are restless. But, it is not the best option for those who want some bounce in their mattress. You will need an innerspring hybrid or hybrid.

One of the key features of memory foam is how it sinks into you – this is what provides above-average cushioning. The dense, all-foam material can feel warmer at night than some other mattresses.

However, memory foam mattresses of the highest quality are packed with special cooling substances that help regulate your temperature during sleep.

A memory foam mattress is best avoided if your body heat increases at night. However, if you are a fan of the cooling feel of memory foam mattresses, there are plenty that you should try. The Cocoon Chill Memory Foam mattress is a budget-friendly option, but the Tempur-Breeze mattress is more expensive at $3,000.

Innerspring mattresses

Saatva’s iconic innerspring mattress, Saatva, is available in three firmness levels. Credit to Saatva

Innerspring mattresses have a coil support system to provide structure and comfort. The number, height, design, and quantity of the coils can vary. Although innerspring mattresses used interconnected coils in the past, this term is now being used to describe pockets spring mattresses.

These are made with individually wrapped coils. Each coil is placed within its own fabric pocket. A mattress with more pocket springs will provide greater support. For an instant layer of comfort and support, consider using one of our top-rated mattress toppers.

There is one key difference between innerspring mattresses versus all-foam ones: they are buoyant. This means that you sleep on top, instead of sinking beneath them. It’s a good thing for hot sleepers as it means that your body heat will not be trapped under the mattress.

Additionally, springs allow air to circulate better than dense foam. Innerspring mattresses have a higher bounce than all foam and are cheaper.

Hybrid mattresses

The Helix Midnight mattress features memory foam mixed with supportive polyfoam and a layer containing wrapped coils.

Hybrids give you the best both of them: You have the support and bounce of memory foam, latex, or gel, but also the airflow and subtle bounce of springs. Hybrid mattresses usually have smaller coils. This means that you’ll find a thinner layer in your memory foam.

Hybrid mattresses are a popular choice. They offer a compromise between couples who prefer different types of sleep, as well as a comfortable option for hot sleepers who like the softness and comfort of foam.

Latex mattresses

Avocado Green Mattress is made using GOLS certified organic latex from the company’s co-owned farms’ collectives.

Latex mattresses have a very durable latex mattress made from natural materials. This is in contrast to memory foam mattresses which are made from synthetic materials. Latex is an excellent choice if you are looking for an organic and sustainable mattress.

Latex mattresses don’t have the same density as memory foam so they are less susceptible to overheating. Latex provides bounce and contouring, which is another benefit. It is also extremely durable, making latex an excellent investment. However, it isn’t cheap.

How do you choose the right size mattress for you?

A good rule of thumb for selecting the right size mattress is to make it 10cm larger than the tallest person that will sleep on it. Width-wise, if sharing a mattress, both you and your partner must be able to place your hands under your head.

If you sleep by yourself, the mattress you have will be adequate if your hands are not touching the edges. This distance should be measured and if the mattress you choose is not wider than it, you will be fine.

You can find most of our top-rated mattress options in twin, twin XL, and full sizes. California king size is also available. Many of the options can be split, allowing you to choose a different firmness from your partner. You can also find mattresses that are firmer on one side than the other (soft on one or firm on the opposite).

The mattress’s size will determine its price. Twin mattresses tend to be a bit cheaper than the queen size. The king and California King sizes, on the other hand, are usually around $200 more than the queen. The price of hybrid and luxury mattresses is generally much higher than the prices for original or basic mattresses.

How do I find the perfect mattress firmness?

Medium-firm is the most common mattress choice. This is why most flagship mattresses fall within a range from 5-7 on the firmness scale (10 being the firmness).

However, mattresses are highly subjective. Comfort and firmness are affected by many factors including your weight and height, your body shape, temperature, and whether there is a pain in your back or hips. This means that each person’s experience with a mattress will differ from the other. You may also prefer a firmer or softer mattress.

It’s why we have a range of people test our mattresses and why we review thousands of user reviews. Remember this when you are comparing our “firmness gauge”, which ranges from 1-10, with 10 being the firmest. A mattress may be slightly softer/firmer than we’ve found.

There is however some advice to help you choose the level of mattress firmness that suits you best.

Consider the position you prefer for sleeping.

For back sleepers, a medium-firm mattress can be a great choice. This combination provides the best of both, with a neutral spine alignment and support for the hips. Back sleepers who have a mattress that’s too soft may experience their spine becoming a “U” shape. This causes strain.

Side sleeping requires good pressure relief on their shoulders, hips, and body contours. It is recommended to choose a medium to medium-soft mattress. The spine will not align correctly with the shoulders or hips if it is too soft. Side sleepers will find memory foam to be the best option because of its contouring capabilities.

Front sleeping is more comfortable on a firmer mattress. This allows the hips to be lifted higher so that the spine aligns with them. If the material is too firm it will make it difficult for the spine to curve, and it can be especially uncomfortable for women. Too soft, and it can feel almost as if you are being suffocated. An innerspring or hybrid mattress can be better than foam for front sleepers.

Combination sleepers must choose based upon their dominant sleep position (the location you most often fall asleep in). A medium-firm mattress is best for all sleeping positions.

Be aware of your body’s weight

People who are lighter than 130lbs and less than 130lbs won’t sink as deeply into a mattress. This makes them more suitable for softer options, which can range from 2 to 4 on our firmness scale. An option would be a medium-firm bed.

People weighing 130-230lbs or more are often better suited for a medium and medium-firm mattress, which range from 5-7 on our firmness scale.

People who sleep heavier than 230lbs may find firmer mattresses that have between an 8-10 rating. This prevents them from sinking through the various comfort levels.

Get a risk-free sleep test

Your body can take up to 3 weeks to adjust to a brand new mattress. This is especially true for old mattresses that didn’t support you properly. To be sure, most mattress trial periods last at least 21 days.

To determine the firmness of your mattress, you will need to feel it. Place your hand on your side and lie down.

What’s the time it takes to get a new mattress in place?

This will vary depending on which mattress you choose and how firm the firmness is. But generally, it takes anywhere from 30 days up to three months for your body to adjust to the new levels. Mattress manufacturers may ask that you use your new mattress for at most 30 nights before you can arrange a collection.

If you’re buying a mattress that is very different from the one you have, such as an all-foam mattress but you now want a hybrid model, you may not notice the difference immediately.

Give your mattress the time it needs for it to fully decompress. This will help you get used to it. The mattress will offer maximum support and comfort if this is done. This process can take up to 72-hours to complete. Be patient.

Your new mattress will be more comfortable if you are able to relax on different parts. As your new mattress will take longer to get used to, it is best to avoid sleeping in another bed or on the sofa.

Which is the best mattress of 2021?

We think that the Nectar Memory Foam still is the best mattress available. It’s a great deal for the price. It’s supportive and comfortable, and it is very competitively priced. A queen size typically costs $799. This is down from $1198.

All sizes can be purchased at Nectar with a $400 Discount and $399-worth free accessories. It is an extraordinary value for the price. Nectar Memory Foam has a 365-night return policy and a lifetime warranty.

The luxury hybrid innerspring Saatva Classic is another option. If you have the budget for it or are looking for something with more bounce, this mattress might be for you.

The price for a queen is around $1,300. You can usually find a discount if you want premium hotel-style comfort. It is also approved by the American Chiropractic Association.

Saatva’s White Glove Delivery is another perk. Saatva’s experts can set up your mattress in your bedroom and will remove your old mattress if you make arrangements in advance.

Nectar will give you the best value for your money. The Saatva is the perfect choice if you’re looking for a luxury hotel snoozing with more spending power.

What time is the best to purchase a new mattress

There are many mattress deals throughout the year. For example, Nectar, a top mattress manufacturer, offers its best-ever discount for over a whole year. Certain months tend to offer better discounts than others.

The Presidents Day Mattress Sales and Black Friday mattress deal are two of the best times to find the lowest prices of the year. This is when people begin spending again slowly after the January lull. Retailers attempt to incite interest by offering strong discounts and prices that are often just as low as Black Friday.

Memorial Day sales are another time to buy new mattresses. As retailers attempt to promote newer models, they will discount older stock. This is a great time to buy a mattress, considering the variety and volume of discounts.

However, we have noticed that prices don’t always dip as low. Although you might get the same offer – $200 off, let’s say – the price could have quietly gone up to $100. The mattress may still be cheaper than its original full price but you’d save more if purchased in November and February.

The July 4th and Labor Day mattresses sales are similar. While the discounts offered usually match those for major holidays like Thanksgiving, many of these actual prices may not be the lowest in the year. If you need a mattress replacement, they are still a great deal and worth your attention.

Here’s why you shouldn’t another mattress, if at all possible: the summer. This is the most expensive season of the year. Prices are usually at their highest. Although you may see similar offers advertised again, the prices can still be quite high at this time of year.

What are the key terms for mattress jargon?

Jargon is one of the most beloved features for mattress manufacturers. You will find certain terms and phrases popping up across multiple brands. Let’s find out…

Adjustable-base compatibility refers to the extent to which a bed can be lifted (top, top, or simultaneously) or bent in an upright position on top of an adjustable bed frame.

Antimicrobial material – typically cotton, fiber, foam, that has been treated for the prevention of the growth bacteria and fungi.

Certified Organic – Mattress materials that meet the Global Organic Textile Standards are eligible for certification.

Wires/coil springs, wires formed in the shape and form of spirals. They are often found in the support layers of innerspring or hybrid mattresses.

Comfort layer– These are the layers at the top of the sides of your mattress that make it feel comfortable when you lie down on it.

Cushioning Depth – This indicates how deep you sink into the mattress as well as how closely it conforms.

The ease of positioning – how well your mattress supports you as you move into a new position.

Firmness This describes the mattress’s resistance to compression and how soft or firm the mattress feels when you lay on it.

Hypoallergenic: Mattresses that are less likely to cause allergic reactions. This term will be used often on a natural and organic mattress.

Motion isolating – How much movement can be felt at either end of the mattress. It is important to motion isolate your partner if they are restless sleepers.

This is the off-gassing smell that can be found in some mattresses when they’re unboxed. This is normal. Some chemicals in the air cause the smell. This feature explains more about mattress off-gassing.

Pressure relief– All of the top mattresses offer this. The mattress’s ability to reduce pressure points when you lie down is called pressure relief. The most common pressure points are your shoulders, hips, and lower back.

If you don’t get good pressure relief, you might feel soreness, decreased circulation, and discomfort due to in-bed discomfort.

Recovery speed – The time it takes for the mattress to return to its normal form after being compressed.

Reinforced edge supports – Keeps your mattress solid and support by building a structure around it. Foam, steel rods, and thick coils are used to provide edge support.

Sagging: This refers to the mattress losing support or sinking in certain areas. Sagging is most common in older mattresses. Our guide to how often you should replace your mattress can help you understand more.

Warranty This policy sets out what the manufacturer will and won’t cover when it comes to repairing or replacing a product that has a fault within a set time. Read more about our mattress warranties.
